Mafia II is a third-person shooter from the same writing team of Mafia. In the game you play Vido, who returns to the States from the war and soon finds that crime is well payed. He associates with a gang and starts from the lowest ranks of the organization. I won't spoil much more than that for you.
The game has an open-world approach. You have to move throughout the city to get to locations, where you have to complete missions. You have cars to do this, and you can steal cars along the way as well. Driving in Mafia II isn't the greatest of experiences, but it is manageable. I like the addition of a speed limiter, which prevents you from going too fast, as that will most definitely result in an accident. The police are always patrolling the streets of the city, and you often get in trouble for speeding, hitting cars or pedestrians. Thankfully, you can bribe the cops as many times as you want, if you have the money.
Fist and gun fights are also an important part of this game. You will have to beat down lots of people during your adventures. Fist fights are very good in this game. There are lots of combos that you can pull off and the finishing moves are very smooth. However, during regular missions, you will be better off using your guns. There is a nice cover system in place for when bullets don't stop flying around you. It allows you to get out of cover slightly and aim and shoot. more
